Whisky from Down Under lands in UK

10 October, 2013

A whisky range from Down Under is now available to buy for the first time ever in the UK.

The Overeem single malt range is made at family-run distillery Old Hobart in Tasmania, which produces just 8,000 bottles per year.

In his Whisky Bible 2013, Jim Murray called it “one of the best wine cask deliveries I have tasted from the southern hemisphere."

He added: "Absolutely classic. Just get it if you see it – a no-brainer.”

The four-strong range starts at an rrp of £140 and goes up to £190 for a 70cl bottle and it is going into off-licences this month.

The single cask whiskies are marketed and distributed by Oak Cask Distribution, a new firm set up by Toby Dudfield and Jonah Costello.

Two expressions are matured in port casks, at 43% abv and 60% abv, and the other two are matured in sherry casks, also at 43% abv and 60% abv.

Dudfield said: “I wanted something different to offer the market, something exclusive and a product that had the potential to change the views of whisky drinkers all over the globe.

“We have a fantastic product that we are doing our best to get into the hands of the consumer. Our goal is to have all whisky lovers share the fantastically unique Overeem experience.”
