Morgenrot takes on Windhoek

10 September, 2013

Manchester-based importer Morgenrot has become the sole UK importer of Namibian lager Windhoek.

The brand was launched in the UK by Diageo just before the Football World Cup was held in South Africa in 2010.

Windhoek is named after Namibia’s capital and is brewed to German purity standards at 4% abv.

Morgenrot’s Graham Archibald said: “Windhoek lager offers fantastic quality, absolute authenticity and a fabulous point of difference. We believe the brand is only at the start of its life cycle in the UK and with continued consumer interest in lower abv premium lagers, we think it has the credentials to see substantial growth.”

Windhoek was created by two German immigrants to Namibia in the 1900s. It is now available in 27 countries around the world and has a strong following in the UK on-trade.

The lager is listed in Waitrose and independent retailers.
