Drinks trade aims to raise £25,000 in charity cycle ride

Members of the drinks trade are embarking on a 600km cycle ride through the mountainous region of northern Spain and Portugal in a bid to raise £25,000 for charity.

Andrew Hawes, managing director of Mentzendorff, will be joined by Ian Harris of the WSET, Adrian Bridge of Taylorís Port and Philip Amps of Amps Fine Wines among others for the Mentzendorff Charity Ride.

It begins in Haro, Rioja, on Monday, June 10, and ends five days later at Regua in the heart of Portugalís Douro Valley.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
