Comedians raise a toast to Spitfire

Spitfire Ale has snapped up the comedy duo behind the Armstrong & Miller Show as brand ambassadors.

Alexander Armstrong, who hosts TV game show Pointless, and Ben Miller will be wheeled out at trade and consumer events.

Later in the year they will front a national ad campaign designed to continue the strong tradition of tongue-in-cheek British humour from a brand whose former taglines include “Downed all over Kent, just like the Luftwaffe”.

Spitfire Ale, originally brewed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, has also used the line: “No Nazi aftertaste.”

Brand manager Kate Maclean said: “Spitfire has always been associated with a very British sense of humour, and the comedy style of the pair is an excellent fit for the brand’s personality.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
