The Portuguese Ambassador to the UK presented Jancis Robinson MW with a medal for her services to Portuguese wine at a ceremony at his London home.

Dr Joao da Vallera commended Robinson for championing Portuguese wines throughout her career and awarded her the

Commendador do Ordem do Mérito Empresarial – Classe do Mérito Agricola.
She said: “All my wine writing life I have felt very fond of Portuguese wines and have championed them.

“I think it’s high time we got rid of any idea that Portuguese wine has to be a niche product or an inexpensive product.

“The evidence is there that Portugal is producing some wonderful wines.”
