Brand Phoenix launches new low alcohol wines

01 August, 2012

Brand Phoenix has launched a new range of 5.5% wines in a bid to tap into the growing market for reduced alcohol wines.

The category has grown by 26% in volume and 39% in value over the past year and Blossom Hill recently launched a low alcohol range to take advantage.

Now Brand Phoenix, the company behind the fastest growing lighter style range, FirstCape Café Collection, has introduced three new varietals to the market.

The new Discovery Series includes a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Italian Pinot Grigio and Californian Zinfandel.

All varietals are 5.5% ABV with 57 calories per glass, compared with 74 calories per full strength ABV FirstCape 125ml glass.  Each varietal is available in both still and sparkling.

Steve Rosser, joint UK director at Brand Phoenix, said: “Lighter styles are a massive growth opportunity.

“They have entered the top 10 wine category for the first time and are now bigger than some generic wine categories, such as Argentina.

“Given the success we have gained with Café Collection, we are confident that this new tier of varietals will also prove a hit with consumers.”

FirstCape Light is available in Morrisons and Tesco in 50cl (RRP £3.99) and 75cl (RRP £5.99) formats.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
