Sunshine sales boost for Oddbins

Oddbins has seen a surge in sparkling wine sales thanks to the unseasonal sunshine.

The retailer said Prosecco sales have grown 28% over the past 10 days, cava sales have leapt 20% and Champagne sales have increased 8%.

Meanwhile cider sales have jumped by 48%.

Head of buying Emma Nichols said: “With this unexpected ray of sunshine, a lot of people are using the opportunity to have picnics and barbecues, with sparkling wines being their preferred drink.”

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
