Fake vodka in Bournemouth

29 December, 2011

Bournemouth is the latest town to be identified as a hotspot for counterfeit vodka.

Trading Standards officers in the Dorset resort investigated complaints from residents and seized eight brands of fake vodka from a number of convenience stores.

Brand names used by the counterfeiters include Drop, Russian Standard, Passion, Rocka and Arctic Ice. Labels contained no manufacturer details and incorrect bar codes.

Several cases of counterfeit wine were also confiscated from the shops in Boscombe, Kinson, Winton and the town centre.

Tests have shown the spirit was deficient in alcohol, and analysis will reveal whether the drinks are harmful.
