The chain celebrated its relaunch by inviting consumers to say how much they would be prepared to pay for three wines they tasted blind – and encouragingly, all three have gone on sale at £8 and over.
Viña Leyda Sauvignon Blanc 2010, from Chile, is priced at £8, and Oddbins said many consumers were able to identify the style and grape variety straight away.
Little Yerring Chardonnay 2009 from Australia’s Yarra Valley fooled some, who thought it might be a white Burgundy – and is priced at £8.50.
Valgrays Garnacha 2010 from Spain also weighed in at £8.50, and was the most popular of the three wines.
“The vast majority thought this sould be sold at a higher price than the whites,” Oddbins said. “This is a red with more serious intentions than most of those emerging from this generally humble Spanish district. We expect this wine to be sold out quickly.”
