House of Townend unveils £2m HQ

26 May, 2011

House Of Townend has officially opened its new head office and bonded warehouse.

The Yorkshire wine merchantís £2m offices, retail unit and bonded warehouse at Melton, near Hull, were completed in February but were formally opened for business yesterday by Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt of the Laurent-Perrier Champagne house.

The Cellar Door shop at the 27,000 sq ft site allows customers to sample up to 30 wines.

House of Townend, which remains family owned, has operated from Hull for 106 years, and until recently was based at Red Duster House in York Street.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
