Students act responsibly

Aston Manor, producer of Frosty Jack's white cider, is touring UK universities during Freshers Week to promote responsible drinking.

The Midlands cidermaker will hand out 50,000 specially-made 33cl bottles of cider .

Promotional staff will also be giving students alcohol unit calculators and advice leaflets.

The tour, which started this week, was announced after Aston Manor polled 15,000 students - and found that half of them did not know their recommended daily unit allowance.

Sales and marketing director Glenn Asquith said: "We might feel that the message about responsible consumption is understood, but the shocking results from our survey suggest there is no room for complacency.

"As well as supporting industry initiatives we felt it was important to do more which is why we have invested significant resources to talk directly to this important audience."

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
