Have teenagers reacted badly to the tobacco law?

"The ones who've been buying cigarettes for the past year are pretty peeved.

But we're a local shop so we know most of them and they haven't been threatening. As always

us retailers

take the brunt

when the government makes its decision."

Mark Cleasby

Green Road Off-licence

Kendal, Cumbria

" We printed off big posters about it so that seems to have worked. We have seen an increase in adults being asked to buy cigarettes by teenagers outside the shop ."

Dave Banks

Fairview Off-licence

Gillingham, Kent

"It's the young ones that have had bad reactions. I've had to ask for a lot more ID and sometimes they're verbally abusive. I end up telling them to get out of the shop. Luckily they do without causing any more trouble."

Sharon Martin

The Wine Seller Bishopbriggs, Glasgow

"We started asking the youngsters buying cigarettes two weeks ago for ID and we put posters up

so they were already well informed.
