A robber carried a gun in a plastic bag into an off-licence in Sheffield and demanded cash before threatening a member of staff. The man, described as white and in his 20s, reached across the counter and grabbed The Local shop worker when he refused to open the till. He left when his own attempt to open the till failed. The worker was left shaken but unhurt following the incident .
Knife threat at The Local
A masked raider stole about £70 from an off-licence in Fishermead, Milton Keynes, on Sept 19 after threatening staff with a large knife. He grabbed the cash from the till at the branch of The Local when one of the shop workers opened it , then ran off, leaving the pair shaken but unharmed.
A Cardiff off-licence has had its licence suspended for three months. Cardiff council's licensing sub-committee removed the right for Pwllmelin Stores to sell alcohol for 12 weeks, after trading standards said it had failed three out of seven test purchases since 2005. Owner Frederick Rees told the committee he had trained his staff on Challenge 21, and said he had experienced trouble with teenagers congregating around his shop.
Jail for alcoholic thief
An alcoholic who threatened to smash a bottle of beer in a shop assistant's face after he was caught trying to steal two bottles of whisky has been jailed for three years. Gary Hanlon, from Great Cambourne in Cambridgeshire, was arrested after being identified from CCTV images recorded in Threshers, Chesterton Road, Cambridge, following the incident on May 13.
Selling alcohol illegally
A drinks shop in Barking, Essex, has been banned from selling alcohol after a failed test purchase revealed it had been selling alcohol for five months without a licence.
The owners of Khertola Food Mart had
not applied for an alcohol licence when taking over the shop in April because they did not think they needed one. Barking & Dagenham council's licensing board refused the shop's licence application on Sept 19.
Fines for three of nine
Three off-licences in Devon have been fined for selling alcohol to a 15-year-old. Devon & Cornwall police and Devon Trading Standards visited nine shops in the Cullompton area
on Aug 24 as part of an ongoing series of test purchases. Previous stings saw the off-trade do better than pubs.
Arrest after stabbing
A man has been arrested after a shop worker was stabbed during a robbery. Emergency services were called to Threshers in Whitehorse Street, Baldock, Hertfordshire, on the evening of Sept 24. A male victim has serious injuries and was receiving hospital treatment, according to police reports. Police closed off the High Street until 9am the following day.
