Global Brands has launched a World Beers multipack exclusively for Makro. The pack includes bottles of Carib lager from Trinidad, Tsingtao from China, Krombacher Pils from Germany and Latin-style Salitos. Beer brands director John Harley said: "The beer pack is a perfect gift for Christmas, giving consumers the chance to try beers from different parts of the world in a convenient and cost-effective pack."

Barry and Henry Chevallier Guild, the brothers behind Suffolk cider Aspall, are celebrating top appointments in the cider and vinegar trades. Henry has been elected vice chair of the National Association of Cider Makers, and will become its chair in 2009, while Barry has been named second vice president of European vinegar producers' association the Permanent International Vinegar Committee.

Fuller's London Pride is the official beer sponsor of the HSBC World Match Play golf championship, which has the highest prize in the history of European and US golf - £1 million. The three-year deal will see London Pride advertised on perimeter boards around the course, and the event will be broadcast on BBC TV.

Marston's has donated £30,000 to the Professional Cricketers Association Benevolent Fund to back up its support of the England & Wales Cricket Board, the England Cricket Team and the PCA. The fund helps current and former players and their dependants in times of hardship, upheaval or to adjust to the world beyond the game.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
