Councillors have given the green light to a £40 million distillery at Roseisle in Moray. Set between Elgin and Forres, it will be Scotland's first new mainland distillery in 30 years and could create 25 jobs. Diageo is building the development as part of a £100 million expansion of its operations in a bid to help meet anticipated long-term demand for whisky in growing international markets, the company said.

Absolut's latest Disco gift pack has secured listings in Asda and Selfridges. Taking its inspiration from the mirror ball, it has been created using 1,000 reflecting prisms and contains a 70cl bottle.

Two of Emporia Brands' premium spirits - Cape North Vodka and Saffron Gin - have won listings in 100 Sainsbury's stores and 270 Wine Rack shops nationwide. The vodka will retail for £25.99 and the gin for £19.99 in 70cl bottles in both stores.

Old Pulteney has teamed up with Insider Magazine as a sponsor of the Elite Awards, held at Edinburgh's Prestonfield Hotel. Its single malt was served to guests at the welcome drinks ceremony and as after-dinner drams.

The second bottling of Port Charlotte has been released by the Bruichladdich Distillery. A year after the first bottling, the cask strength has fallen by almost 2 per cent of alcohol to 61.6 per cent abv. There will be 18,000 bottles of PC6 available worldwide.
