One thing I have found since also working on the retail side is the harsh competition that the independents are facing against the big multiple stores. One way round this is to keep customers coming back by always offering them something that the big stores can't, whether that's carrying their wine to the car or even rewarding bigger customers with maybe a Christmas bottle of plonk. Making your customers feel appreciated not only makes the experience good for them but also rewards your ongoing business and increases loyalty.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
