Laurent-Perrier sticks to fizz

Laurent-Perrier will no longer distribute agency wines in the UK in a move to focus solely on Champagne. The announcement follows "significant growth" of the Laurent-Perrier Champagne brands over the last three years, the company said. Laurent-Perrier is the

agent for Marqués de Riscal, Trinity Hill and Thorn-Clarke, but Enotria will take on the agency for Trinity Hill from Jan 1. Laurent-Perrier will still represent Spanish wine range Marqués de Riscal and Australian range Thorn-Clarke in the UK until March 31 next

year .

Keep Mumm on the move

Pernod Ricard has launched a rigid aluminium gift box for Champagne GH Mumm Cordon Rouge. The

gift is a travel canister that's designed to protect the Champagne and keep it cool while travelling. The branded box has a carry-strap and will be exclusive to Selfridges at £23.99. Pernod Ricard's Champagne chief Chris Seale said: "This new canister means that consumers can celebrate their extraordinary achievements with a bottle of GH Mumm Cordon Rouge any time, any place, anywhere."

Budvar rolls out 3.8% Pardal

Czech brewery Budweiser Budvar has created a 3.8 per cent abv lager which it says is similar to British mild ale. Pardal, which means "panther" in Czech, but can also mean "top man" or "master of a trade", is

available in the Czech Republic, but is expected to be released in the UK off-trade some time in the future. UK off-trade director Jon Whittle said: "It's a medium range beer, and that's reflected in the price, but it packs in all the qualities that you would expect from a brewer with a reputation like ours. Because of this there has already been a considerable interest shown by the UK off-trade in Budvar's new brew."

Gallaher links up with Sony

Gallaher is giving independent retailers the chance to win a share of £40,000 worth of Sony electrical equipment in its latest on-pack promotion. Running on special packs of Hamlet 5s, 10s and Variety Pack outers throughout Christmas, the giveaway includes electrical items such as LCD TVs, camcorders, digital cameras and MP3 players. To enter retailers need to tear off, fill in and send in an entry form.

Pierhead snaps up Cerveza

Pierhead Purchasing has added Cerveza Potro to its portfolio of imported Mexican beers. Potro is a 100 per cent malt dark stout which comes in a distinctive cobalt blue bottle with a long slim neck and round body. It was created by the owners of Tequila Corralejo, who decided to move to brewing and shipped a whole disused brewery from Chicago to Penjamo in Baja, California, for the purpose. The 4.7 per cent abv ale is to retail at £1.85 per 50cl bottle.
