Morrisons has been rocked by some high-profile departures from its drinks buying team.

Wine trading manager Stuart Purdie (pictured) is making a surprise exit after 16 years with the supermarket. Purdie, one of the longest serving wine buyers in the mainstream multiples, is leaving at the end of December to "pursue other interests", according to a spokeswoman.

Senior spirits buyer Jane Pearson has also left, and wine buyer James Jackson, responsible for Italy, Vin de Pays d'Oc, California and low alcohol wines, has moved to a new position in the supermarket group's food department.

The changes come just weeks after the arrival of Arabella Woodrow MW as head of Morrisons wine buying team, and the retirement of John Spurs, who leaves the business at the end of the year after long service as licensed trades director.
