This year's Wine Show attracted 15,311 visitors - a 10 per cent increase on last year, according to the organisers. The consumer fair took place at London's Business Design Centre in Islington from Oct 25-28.

Yorkshire-based wine merchant Playford Ros has appointed Toby Wright

sales representative for Yorkshire. Wright joins from S &N.

Importer Fiandaca has added wines†from San Marino to its UK portfolio. The y are Biancale and Sangiovese

from the Vini Tipici consortium on the Mediterranean island .

Campo di Sasso Distribuzione has appointed Peter Ferguson

international sales and marketing director. The company is a joint venture between the

Antinori brothers, Piero and Lodovico. Ferguson was previously

European sales director for Jess Jackson's Wine Estates in California.

Bottle Green has launched an organic wine range produced in the Languedoc. Reserve Naturelle currently consists of

a Merlot, Viognier and Syrah with an rrp of £4.99 for the first two and

£5.99 for the Syrah.

Bay of Fires has added a non-vintage sparkling rosť to its Tigress sparkling wine range. The Tasmanian wine has an rrp of £14 and is available through Cellar Door.

Australian wine brand Banrock Station is introducing Tetra Pak cartons for its Shiraz and Chardonnay. The

1-litre Banrock Ecomate will roll out to selected Tesco stores from mid-November, priced

£6.49. The packs are recyclable and largely produced from renewable material. They are lighter and more energy efficient to produce and transport than traditional glass bottles.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. Itís hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who canít actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
