Praise for Patrick Healy's 'passion'

30 November, 2007

Fetzer has paid tribute to its former environment manager, Patrick Healy, who died on Nov 10 following a long battle with cancer.

Healy had worked for the Californian wine company for more than 30 years

and became one

of its keenest advocates of sustainable business practices, Fetzer said in a statement.

His achievements

included pushing for zero waste, starting a recycling programme that reduced waste sent to landfills by more than 95 per cent during a period of sustained growth.

He had also helped the organic wine specialist become an early adopter of

solar power and clean energy, and

one of a small number of wineries using 100 per cent carbon-free energy for its production and bottling facilities.

Healy also helped Fetzer plan and build an eco-friendly administration building, constructed using a high proportion of recycled materials , including timber, paint and flooring.

"We were blessed to have Patrick with us at Fetzer," said Cindy DeVries,

general manager. "His leadership, service and passion is reflected in every green thing we do at the winery."

He is survived by his wife Charlotte and son, Aran. A memorial service will be held for Patrick in Ukiah on Dec
