Berry new Benevolent chairman

03 January, 2008

Drinks trade charity The Benevolent has appointed Berry Bros & Rudd chairman Simon Berry as its chairman for 2008.

Benevolent chief executive Cheng Loo said Berry “has a great wealth of knowledge and expertise in the trade and has been a member of The Benevolent council for many years. We look forward to working with him on some new and exciting projects in 2008 and further strengthening the position of The Benevolent within the trade”.

Berry said: “It is an honour to be asked to become chairman of The Benevolent. It is a highly-esteemed and well-established charity which carries out some really fantastic work for the benefit of those in need. I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead and look forward to being part of it.”

Berry, who has worked in the wine trade for more than 30 years, takes over the position from Chivas Brothers’ communications director Vanessa Wright. During her term of office, Wright was instrumental in raising the profile of the charity and modernising its image. The Benevolent appoints a new chairman each year.
