Thirty-four independent wine merchants have signed up to
on Jan 26 -27 to help increase awareness of the Tuscan wine region. The Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico's Black Rooster tasting weekend, organised in conjunction with OLN's sister publication Wine & Spirit, will ask retailers and customers for feedback on four wines. Consorzio president Marco Pallanti, said: "Chianti Classico has evolved considerably over recent years and we are keen to increase awareness of what our wines have to offer both among
consumers and independent retailers."
Antinori releases project
Italian winemaker Lodovico Antinori has appointed Maisons Marques & Domaines as UK agent for his new portfolio, which incorporates wines from both Italy and New Zealand. Antinori, who created
Super-Tuscan Ornellaia, has been working on this project with his brother, Piero,
since 2002. His Tuscan estate, Tenuta di Biserno, is
in the Upper Maremma at Bibbona .
Call for ban on below cost sales
The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers is putting pressure on the government to tackle supermarkets selling alcohol at below-cost prices. The trade body has met licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe to press for a ban on below-cost selling.
