What is the biggest challenge you face this year?

" How to deal with the various price increases . There seem

to be rumours of significant increases in Pinot Grigio and Australian prices.

And we have to contend with what is going on in this country with duty. It's difficult to balance these price hikes, especially for an independent."

"It's going to be ID-ing for fags. It can be difficult to guess someone's age so we ID everyone.

"It's online sales and general competition from the big boys. It all boils down to unfair competition . We're in the process of setting up a website but you have to compete with the supermarkets' sites and that is becoming a threat ."

"We work from our own premises and we're in the process of moving house so that's

our biggest challenge ."

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
