Brunello di Montalcino producer Argiano has appointed Thorman Hunt

its new UK distributor with immediate effect. Thorman Hunt will import the 2003 Brunello di Montalcino, 2006 Rosso di Montalcino, 2004 Solengo IGT Rosso, 2005 Non Confunditur and the 2005 Suolo.

Thierry's has relaunched South African wine brand Golden Kaan in

the UK , with a packaging upgrade


four new varietals blended specifically for the UK market - Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz. To celebrate , Golden Kaan has secured exclusive pouring rights as wine partner of circus and theatrical show Afrika! , which starts its UK tour in London on Jan 17. The wines will be available in the new year, priced at £5.49.

Hatch Mansfield will become the UK agent for Rioja producer CVNE from April 2008. The portfolio includes Cune, Imperial, Contino and Viña Real. CVNE was founded in 1879 and

is controlled by

descendants of the founding family.

South African Fairtrade wine brand Fairhills will embark on a marketing drive to support its wines in the UK. Former Somerfield wine buyer Angela Mount will be marketing consultant for the brand. The programme will target UK wine drinkers through consumer media, especially during Fairtrade Fortnight from Feb 25 to March 9 . It will also target the trade to increase distribution of its range . The Fairhills project is a partnership between Origin Wines, Du Toitskloof winery and the Du Toitskloof farming community.

Argentin ian producer Trapiche has picked a trio of its 2005 vintage wines for this year's Malbec Single Vineyard collection. The chosen wines come from vineyards ranging from 57 to 97 years old in the Luján and San Carlos areas. The three are Viña Fausto Orellana, Viña Francisco Olivé and Viña Eleodoro Aciar.

Mumm has given its rosé Champagne a makeover . The new

look uses a deeper -pink colour on both the label and foil, reflecting the wine's

red fruit aromas.

Chris Seale, head of Champagnes at Pernod Ricard UK, said: "To capitalise more on the buoyant rosé category we wanted to give G H

Mumm Rosé stronger differentiation ."

Hallgarten Wines has appointed Eddie Mosdell

national accounts sales director. Mosdell has previously worked for D&D Wines International and Buckingham Vintners International.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
