Ian Macleod Distillers has launched a miniature tasting kit containing six 5cl bottles. The Macleod's Scotch Whisky Trail contains a selection of 8


Old single malts from the Lowlands, Speyside, Highlands, Islands and Islay, plus an Isle of Skye blended whisky. Presented in a gift box

with tasting notes, the set has a price tag of £19.95.

The Macallan

distillery has released a limited-edition 12 Year Old single malt. The Ghillie's Dram has been created to celebrate the role that the River Spey, one of Scotland's most famous salmon rivers, plays in creating the character of The Macallan . With a price tag of £95, each bottle has been individually

labelled and numbered, and comes with a fishing pouch containing

salmon flies and a map of The Macallan


The Scotch Whisky Experience is to undergo a £2 million expansion after a

drop in visitor numbers. The revamp of the tourist attraction in Edinburgh's Royal Mile will include a new "tilting car" ride demonstrating how the national drink is made. There are also plans to showcase the world's biggest whisky collection in a new vault-style room.

The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled a TV ad for Brecon Five Vodka is not offensive to Welsh people. More than 20 viewers complained that the ad, which depict s a quiz featuring The Boffins From The Institute of Advanced Philosophy, a team from the Valley College of Further Education in Wales, presented a negative stereotype of Welsh people as unintelligent. The watchdog ruled that people would view the ad as a humorous play on the vodka's Welsh origin .

Whisky tourism initiative Scotland Whisky has revamped its website to encourage tourists to visit distilleries and help Scottish hotels to promote their whisky expertise. The site - - includes maps


hotels and distilleries , a tourist photo -sharing gallery and online bookable whisky tours.

The first masterclass in Wine Rack's new scholarship programme will take place on Jan 16 at Cloud 23 Bar, Hilton Hotel, Deansgate in Manchester, from 1-4pm. Designed to introduce the new premium range of spirits to Wine Rack managers, the event will be conducted by mixologist and bar manager Gerry Calabrese. Further masterclasses will take place in Edinburgh on Jan 23

and Jan 30.
