Wiltshire-based wine merchant, Yapp Brothers, is making it easy for customers to ensure they drink the most suitable wine with their meal by launching an online food and wine matching facility.
Since Jan 17, visitors to the site www.yapp.co.uk have been able to search for wines to accompany a variety of dishes using options such as style, region and price.
Jackie Dyer, HR and communications manager at Yapp Brothers, said she came up with the idea for the service last year when food and wine tastings run by the merchant started to grow in popularity.
She said: “We get a lot of requests from customers for recommendations of wines that go with certain foods. People are perhaps drinking wine more with food than on its own and they want to know what will go together. We are certainly seeing more and more people showing an interest.”
All recommendations are made by members of the Yapp team, who have tried and tested each wine with different foods.
Dyer said: “We are fairly broad in the wine and food matching and it will of course depend on what sauce you might have with your beef, for example, but we are all trying things ourselves all the time, so we have got a good idea of what goes with what.”
