A new 33cl bottle for SAB Miller's Miller Genuine Draft brand claims to achieve glass savings of more than 1,000 tonnes a year and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 650 tonnes.
The Glassrite project has also helped produce a 22 per cent lighter bottle for Marston's Pedigree and a lightweight 66cl pack for Cobra lager.
British ale brewers Black Sheep, Broughton Ales and Frederic Robinson are sharing a bottle which has a unit weight reduction of 24 per cent.
Black Sheep managing director Paul Theakston said: "This initiative proves that you can do good business and at the same time benefit the environment."
