Philglas launches Aussie own-label
24 January, 2008
London wine merchant Philglas & Swiggot has created an own-label Australian wine, Rogers & Petersen, as an example of the style of wines it would like to see more of from Down Under. The range will initially consist of a Pinot Noir (£17.99) and Shiraz (£16.99) from 2006, with more planned. Mike Rogers, owner of the three-strong drinks shop chain, worked with top Australian winemaker Mac Forbes (formerly of the Yarra Valley's Mount Mary) to create the wines. Grapes are sourced from single vineyards and the wine is made with "lower alcohol and more subtle use of oak" to create "fruit-driven wines that will age well", said Rogers. "We're doing it to prove that it can be done," he added. Future additions could include a Nebbiolo.
