Members of the trade are invited to show off their general knowledge and raise money for the Benevolent at a Benevolent Buddies quiz night. Magners has launched a rugby-themed online campaign to run for the duration of the Six Nations. Ads will appear on websites for the Guardian, Times and Independent, and continue
a campaign theme used by the brand on TV during last year's Rugby World Cup.
Rock highlight is Coral
Jameson is hosting a series of gigs from mid-February to the end of March as
part of its St Patrick's Day campaign. Highlights of the series for the Pernod Ricard-owned Irish whisk ey are concerts featuring The Coral and The Aliens in Manchester and London on March 16 and 17.
Hepworths takes gong
Sussex microbrewer Hepworths has been named Sussex Drink Producer of the Year in the 2007/8 Sussex Food Awards. The Horsham-based brewer beat runners-up Harve ys of Lewes and Ridgeview Estate winery in Ditchling.
Promotions at Pernod Ricard
Pernod Ricard's commercial director, Simon Thomas, has been promoted to the new role of deputy managing director, sales and marketing spirits. He will retain direct responsibility for on and off-trade spirits and wholesale. Vlastimil Spelda has been appointed marketing director for spirits and Champagne
from March 1, and Nick Blair, currently international sales director for Pernod Ricard Pacific, becomes wine director.
Liverpool brewer Cains has launched a limited-edition bottle of its Finest Lager with a label by Sir Peter Blake, to mark the city's role as European Capital of Culture for 2008. It will be available until December with an rrp of £1.99. The artist is famous for his cover of the Beatles' Sgt Pepper album.
Premixed alcoholic drinks will have to carry nutritional information under food labelling proposals put forward by the European Commission. The plans will require all food products to carry signposting information on calories, fat, sugar, salt and carbohydrate content. Other alcoholic drinks categories are exempt .
