Appleton feeds demand for 8 Year Old

22 February, 2008

Appleton Estate is to launch an

8

Year

Old golden rum in the UK off-trade.

Distilled, blended and bottled in Jamaica using a blend of 20 aged rums selected by master blender Joy Spence, Appleton Estate 8 Year Old has a 43 per cent abv.

All the rums are a minimum of eight years old, which creates a "fine sipping rum that can

be used to create cocktails with

real depth of flavour", according to Appleton.

Marketing manager Mariam Ridley said: "Growing interest in golden rums

has driven this launch. We have had requests for 8 Year Old, particularly from the on-trade, for some time now and felt the time was right to introduce it into the marketplace - aptly enough in 2008."

The newcomer will sit between Appleton's flagship brand Appleton Estate V/X and Appleton Estate 12 Year Old. It is described as having "delicate scents of honey and holiday spice with tastes of marzipan, caramel and brown sugar".

It will be distributed by J Wray & Nephew from April and has a price tag of £20.99.

J Wray & Nephew has

been appointed UK distributor for Spa nish liqueur brand Licor 43. Made from a secret recipe of 43 ingredients, it will retail

at £14.99 in the off-trade.
