Waitrose recruits youngest MW

28 February, 2008

Waitrose has recruited the youngest MW as part of a reshuffle of its wine buying team.

Waitrose has recruited the youngest Master of Wine as part of a reshuffle of its wine buying team.

Ken Mackay MW will join the team on March 10 from wholesale distributor Willoughby’s as buyer for England, Germany, Eastern Europe and the USA.

Mackay's recruitment has been made to give buying manager Justin Howard-Sneyd more time to focus on running the team.

New Zealand buying responsibility will transfer to Mackay in the summer while The Rhone and the South of France will be added to buyer Andrew Shaw’s portfolio.

Howard-Sneyd said: "We are a fast-growing business with a great reputation for the quality of our wine range, and as the complexity of what we offer increases, we need talented people like Ken to make sure that our team stays ahead of the game."

Mackay became MW in 2006. His recruitment will bring the number of MW's on the wine buying team at Waitrose to six.

Waitrose has also recruited Anne Jones as information manager. She will be responsible for producing the Waitrose wine list, co-ordinating in-store publications and providing information for the website.
