Bargain Booze profits satisfy

Bargain Booze made pre-tax profits of £10.6 million in the year to April 30 2007, a fall on the previous year. Directors said they were "satisfied with the results for the year", adding they were broadly in line with management expectations. Turnover for the period was £359 million. Its previous set of figures - for the 16 months to April 30 2006 - showed profits of £11.3 million.

Whiteside's bread role

Former Thresher Group chief executive Roger Whiteside has joined the board of bakery retailer Greggs as non-executive director. Whiteside was at the helm of Thresher until the company was bought by private equity group Vision Capital last September.

Spanish honour bestowed

Graham Hines, former director of Wines from Spain, has been welcomed to the ranks of Spain's Gran Orden de Caballeros in recognition of his contributions to Spanish wine. Harvey's Beltrán Domecq and Miguel Merino from family-run Bodega Miguel Merino, were also awarded the title at this year's dinner due to their work within the industry.

Correction

OLN would like to point out that Whyte & Mackay blended whisky is distributed by Whyte & Mackay, not by Maxxium as printed in our Brands Report of Feb 22.
