Makro increases number of in-store wine specialists

07 March, 2008

Wholesaler Makro has recruited wine specialists at five more of its stores to help retailers choose the best wines for their needs.

Last December wine experts were introduced to the cash and carry's stores in Manchester, Rayleigh, Glasgow, Charlton, Leeds and Birmingham as part of plans to improve the business.

Following a successful launch, experts have now been employed at Makro stores in Southampton, Liverpool, Belfast, Hull and Exeter and there are plans to recruit up to five more in other stores across the country in the next few months.

“The specialists have been a huge success at these stores and there have been various initiatives such as wine tasting events with leading experts in the fields,” a spokeswoman said.

All wine experts are recruited and trained by Makro’s wine buyer Fabrizio Di Pietro. He said: “It’s essential that we communicate with our customers to see which wines would best suit their needs.”
