New depots for Blakemore
West Midlands-based Blakemore Wholesale has
fellow Landmark Wholesale member Tyne Tees Cash & Carry, which has depots in Gateshead and Middlesbrough. Blakemore managing director Sam Wilcox said: "We have been looking to grow and expand our current business, and through the acquisition of Tyne Tees we have the opportunity to take on two successful depots that are of the right size and geographical location for Blakemore." Blakemore will integrate the two businesses within its existing structure, but in the short-term will not be re-branding either depot.
Charles Wells gets gong
Charles Wells has been named
Company of the
Year in the 2007 Business Weekly Awards for East Anglia. In the past year, the company broke the £200†million turnover barrier, up nearly 30 % on the previous year, and remains the largest private employer in Bedfordshire. Champagne gift pack
Champagne Mumm is rolling out its aluminium Travel Canister to Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Threshers from April 1 with a retail price of £25.99. The gift pack was launched in Selfridges before Christmas. It is designed to protect a bottle of Cordon Rouge and keep it colder for longer while travelling.
Valpolicella turns to Stelvin
The Allegrini estate is to bottle its Valpolicella under screwcap
- so the wine, which until now has been a Valpolicella Classico, will no longer have the Classico denomination. Liberty Wines managing director David Gleave said: "We asked some of our key customers their opinion and all came back saying
the name Allegrini, the Stelvin closure and the denomination Valpolicella were far more important
than the term Classico."
Berry Bros & Rudd has improved its website, bbr.com, to make buying wine "an†easier, simpler and more fluid process". From next week visitors to the site will be able to create their own wish lists and find†out what others are buying to access more information about wine-growing regions.
