Vinovation creates canned wine range

04 April, 2008

A new range of wines packaged in 20cl aluminium cans has been developed by a Dutch company called Vinovation International.

The wines, under the Wild Pelican brand, are sourced from Spain, South Africa and France and are the result of a partnership with can maker Rexam.

Unlike most canned wines, the Wild Pelican range is entirely still, though a sparkling wine is scheduled for later this year.

The brand has been tested in ski resorts in the French Alps and is launching this spring and summer in the UK, Scandinavia and Benelux countries. The product

is aimed at both on and off-trade customers.

Christiaan Huisman, founder and co-owner of Vinovation International, said: "Our aim was to differentiate us from the wine in cans already on the market. The creation of Wild Pelican originated out of a love for wine and by taking a consumer perspective - creating a brand that allows the consumer to explore some of the best wines the world has to offer whenever and wherever."

Göte Nylin, market development director at Rexam, added: "The aluminium can is the perfect single-serve pack. Its lightweight and compact form offers excellent efficiency in transport and storage.  Moreover, it chills quicker, stays cool longer and is 100% recyclable."
