The family-owned producer has appointed Malcolm Cowen to handle distribution in the on and off-trades, and Tazaki Foods to cover the Japanese restaurant sector.
Akashi-Tai specialises in traditional methods of production and claims to be the first producer to create a brown rice sake. Its portfolio comprises three key styles: traditional Honjozo, aromatic Daiginjo and aged brown rice sake Genmai, at retail prices
International brand development manager Wakana Omija said: "The UK has seen an explosion of interest in Japanese culture, specifically its cuisine, so the increased market for sake is inevitable. We are aiming to simplify the category while ensuring that the authenticity, provenance, individual styles, ways of serving and cultural associations are conveyed."
