Caledonian 's founder shareholders Sandy Orr and Donald MacDonald, and long-term shareholder Stephen Crawley decided to buy Harviestoun following the acquisition of Caledonian by Scottish & Newcastle.
Chris Miller, commercial director at the Alva-based brewery, who has just been appointed managing director, said although the company had always been
independently run, the move would reinforce its status as an independent brewer.
"Our aim is simply to keep making exceptional award-winning beers that people enjoy drinking," he said.
Harviestoun's beers, including Bitter & Twisted, have listings in Sainsbury's and Waitrose.
A new product - Ola Dubh Ale - was recently launched in London and New York.
Stephen Crawley, managing director of Caledonian, will continue as a director of Harviestoun
in a non-executive capacity.
