Grosser Ring event marks centenary

02 May, 2008

Mosel-Saar-Ruwer producers' association Grosser Ring is celebrating its centenary with a UK tasting.

The tasting will be the organisation's 21st

event in the UK and will take place at the German embassy in London on June 11. Twenty-three members of the Grosser Ring and six estates from Nahe will present their 2007 vintages at the

tasting.

Grosser Ring president Wilhelm Haag said: "2007 is a classic Riesling vintage."

Grosser Ring has been making "natural" Riesling wines - not chaptalised or deacified - and selling them exclusively at auctions since 1908. The body was a forerunner of Germany's renowned quality wine association, Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter.

Currently the group has 31 members, many of whom have been in the organisation since it started. Their wines are characterised by fresh fruit flavours, acidity and aromatic minerality for those grapes grown on slate soils.
