You can't afford to miss LIWF or Distil

Twenty thousand wines from 27 countries and 209 wine-producing regions will be on show at more than 1,250 stands at the London wine fair in the Excel exhibition centre from May 20-21.

France is the most heavily represented country, making up 25% of the wines on show, according to wine list company Tasting Buddy, which has teamed up with fair organiser Brintex to provide an online catalogue for the event.

There will be wines made from 136 grape

varieties, with Sauvignon Blanc the most popular for varietal wines, followed by Chardonnay, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Eighty-five per cent of the

event is worth looking at for off-trade visitors as only 15% of wines are on-trade exclusives.

Independents are the busiest sector for the take-home market, with more than 8,000 boutique and independent label wines on taste.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
