Merrydown Cider is running a month-long programme of promotions in Batleys cash and carries, as part of the wholesaler's 50th anniversary celebrations. One Batleys customer will win a year's supply of Merrydown Vintage - a case a week for a year - while a price offer will see ú1 discount on cases of the brand.

Carlsberg has posted a humorous video on You Tube, showing bizarre

ways people get ready for Glastonbury. The film is intended to

fuel interest

for an online competition to win tickets for the music festival, of which Carlsberg is an official commercial partner. Entrants have to say in eight words or fewer how they get ready for Glastonbury.

Brothers cider is to be the sponsor and cider supplier at the Beach Break Live music festival in Cornwall from June 9 to 12. The festival will feature bands

such as The Enemy and the Wombats.

Green Valley Farmhouse vintage, from Exeter, has been named best cider in Camra's national cider and perry championships. The winning perry was Gregg's Pit from Herefordshire.

Cains has won a listing with Morrisons for its Finest lager. The

brand will be going into 342 of the supermarket chain's stores.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
