Alcohol Education Plans for Schools (May 2), I'd like to make you aware of an alcohol education programme in schools that BII has been running with huge success since mid-2007.
The BII Schools Project provides teachers with the tools
to deliver alcohol education as part of the PSHE agenda, but also maps across to areas in Science and Citizenship.
The project achieves this in three main ways, through:
schoolsproject.co.uk which contains quizzes, case studies and printable quiz leaflets;
to provide school packs of colour-printed, ready to use quiz leaflets; and
the QCA accredited BIIAB Level 1 Certificate in Alcohol Awareness qualification.
The project, and specifically the qualification, has been in development for
two years. The project and qualification are supported by
such industry and educational bodies
as the Drinkaware Trust and UK Youth, through its Youth Achievement Awards. Currently, the project has
sponsors, including Marston's, Fullers and Punch, as well as individual sponsors, whose sponsorship funds have provided quiz sheets and resources to over 100 schools across the country.
The qualification was
piloted with a large multi-cultural school in west London and is now actively delivered in
some 114 centres , with
more than 300 certificates issued
A further pilot of
presentation slides, activity booklet and lesson plans , produced
with the Licensed Victuallers School in Ascot, is currently taking place, and these materials will be available free to all approved centres and schools
after the feedback has been
