New sweet range from Hancocks

Hancocks Cash and Carry has launched an 18-strong confection ery range exclusively for independent retailers.

From Turkish confectioner Solen, the range includes Jingle, a pack of three chocolate -filled biscuits. "Retailing at just 15p, Jingle gives the retailer a 37% margin," sa id Hancocks

purchasing director Richard Brittle.

Winergy is a chocolate -covered peanut and caramel bar

that retails at 25p to give

a 31.9% margin, and the Vivienne fruit chew range retails at 20p to earn a 41.2% margin, Brittle adds.

Hancocks is also offering retailers a free advice booklet on how to grow their confectionery sales,

includ ing tips from successful retailers on topics such as how to compete

with nearby supermarkets and why good service will help to fill your till.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
