WSTA members will get a 15 per cent discount to install online age checks, thanks to a deal with age and identity specialist 192Business Services.
The relative anonymity of online alcohol sales has been highlighted as a potential Achilles' heel in efforts to curb under-age drinking.
“This deal could save companies hundreds of pounds as well as provide reassurance they are meeting their legal obligations not to sell alcohol to those under-age," said WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles.
Proof of age software is already used extensively by the drinks industry, the association added.
In order to verify a customer’s age, 129Business Services taps into a range of databases, including the UK Electoral Roll, credit references, passport data and, if introduced in the UK, national identity cards.
