Ravelli offers consumers the chance to taste classic examples from Italy's key DOCs under one brand umbrella.

Launched by Thierry's in 2006, Ravelli is the fastest growing Italian brand in the UK, according to Nielsen figures for the year to Novem ber 2007.

"The concept of sourcing wine from so many different regions was an original one and Ravelli is still the only Italian brand able to offer the consumer such a wide choice and Italian experience," a spokeswoman says.

Prosecco Raboso from the Veneto region is a classic choice for summer drinking, whether indoors or out. A 50/50 blend of Prosecco and Raboso, this wine has an attractive strawberry nose which is carried through on the palate. It is available from Tesco, priced

Other wines in the Ravelli portfolio include Prosecco Spumante, Bianco and Rosso delle Venezie, Valpolicella, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Grigio Blush, Soave Colli Scaligeri, Montepulciano, Montepulciano Cerasuolo, Frascati, Chianti, Chianti Riserva and, the latest addition to the range, a Bardolino. The wines retail from £4.29 to £7.99 and can be found in Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury's.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
