Mateus turns to Portugal

27 June, 2008

Mateus has launched what it claims is the first ever sparkling rosé wine from Portugal to enter the UK market.

The non-vintage Sparkling Brut Rosé has been added to the Mateus range by distributor First Drinks Brands.

The wine is made mainly from the Baga grape, the most widely-planted variety in Portugal's Bairrada region.

Senior brand manager Anthony Habert said: "This is a great opportunity for the trade to capitalise on buoyant sales in rosé and sparkling wines with a brand that has the credentials and reputation to inspire and excite people to buy and enjoy it.

"Mateus has a strong identity and is recognised for being a leader in innovation in the rosé market."
