Asda has gained an exclusive listing for a beer brewed by England cricketer Matthew Hoggard. The 3.8% abv Marston's Night Watchman was crafted by the fast bowler under the guidance of the producer's head brewer Emma Gilleland. Asda beer buyer Jill Wilson said: "With the England cricket team stealing the limelight this summer, cricket-focused products

in-store will be big for retailers."

David Heede has been appointed finance director with additional responsibility for IT at Coors Brewers. He replaces Stewart Glendenning who has been promoted to the role of global chief financial officer for Molson Coors. Heede's previous role as strategy director in the UK operation will be taken by Simon Cox, currently director of strategic sourcing. The changes take effect from July 1.

Czech brewer Budweiser Budvar reported a pre-tax profit of CZK302 million (£9.8 million) in 2007, a 13% increase on the previous year. Exports were up 5.7% to the highest volumes in the brewer's history. Chief executive officer Jiri Bocek described it as a "tough but positive year".

Savanna cider is being backed by an ad campaign continuing the South African brand's quest to persuade people to drink bottles with a wedge of lemon stuck in them. The ads appear in the national and "city-centric" press, on London Underground panels and cycle taxis in the capital's Soho district.

Batemans has released its seasonal bottled ale Summer Swallow. The 4.2% abv beer is a regular in the Batemans seasonal line-up, which also includes such luminaries as Spring Breeze, Autumn Fall and Rosey Nosey.

Adnams' head brewer Mike Powell-Evans has retired. He joined Adnams in 1990 and was head brewer at Bass for 15 years before that. During his time at Adnams he produced new beers such as Explorer and Spindrift, which have become favourites in the Adnams range. Powell-Evans was named brewer of the year by the British Guild of Beer Writers in 2007.
