Bruichladdich redefines multi-vintage identities

Bruichladdich has overhauled its multi-vintage range of single malts in a move to show the different flavours and styles of Islay whiskies.

The three bottlings combine several ages of single malt from various cask types. The first, Rocks, is intended to be drunk as an aperitif and is "fresh and fruity, thanks to the French oak cask influences", according to the distiller.

Waves is "mildly peaty" and exhibits "finesse and fruit", while Peat is described as having "plenty of peat, but without the medicine". This final release will replace Bruichladdich's 3D range.

Rocks will be available for £24, with the other two

on sale for £30 each.

Managing director Mark Reynier said: "The multi-vintage range had evolved haphazardly. Now we have brought them together under one umbrella, each new bottling having its own distinct identity and flavour profile."

He added that the range was inspired by a quote from Champagne's Rémi Krug: "With a single vintage, it is God who decides on the quality. But with a multi-vintage, I am God."

Laphroaig tastings form part of a class act

Laphroaig is to hold tasting masterclasses across the UK , in a bid to shed single malt's elitist image.

At the classes, master blender Robert Hicks will guide consumers through a range of Laphroaig malts .

A promotion on bottles of Laphroaig 10 Year Old will invite consumers to enter a prize draw to win two tickets to one of the tastings, which will take place in London, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh this November.

Beam UK's marketing manager Aileen Nicol said: "As the UK's number one Islay malt, we are committed to driving category growth, and to achieve this we are focusing on broadening and deepening consumer knowledge of the category.

"Our masterclasses will be accessible and engaging for newcomers to Islay malt whisky as well as enthusiasts."
