Beam Global Spirits & Wine's online whisky tasting, Laphroaig Live, attracted an estimated 20,000 viewers from 79 countries worldwide. A total of 11,666 computers logged into the live broadcast from as far afield as Ethiopia, Botswana, Jamaica and Peru. The top five countries were the UK, US , Sweden, Germany and Canada. New styles of Laphroaig, including Laphroaig Cairdeas, were tasted alongside the better-known Quarter Cask and 10 Year Old.

Dutch spirits group Toorank Distilleries is launching a range of rum-based drinks in the UK. TibuRon has 14.7% abv and comes in three flavours - Mango, Pomegranate and Coconut. Each bottle has an rrp of £6.49-£6.99, and a case containing six 50cl bottles has a wholesale price of £27.43. Toorank can be contacted on 01865 343395.

The Edrington Group, which owns Scotch brands Macallan and The Famous Grouse, has seen its turnover rise by 4.7% to £291.5 million for the year ending March 31. Pre-tax profits increased 9.7% to £75.6 millon.

lTo celebrate its position as the only globally recognised gin to still be made in London, Beefeater opened its distillery's doors for the duration of June's London Bar Show. The event included cocktail demonstrations, a beach party and transport from Earls Court in Beefeater-branded taxis.
