No sign of complacency at Constellation, which, despite owning some of the UK's top wine brands, has expanded its portfolio further this year with the launch of the premium South African brand Fish Hoek and its first French product, Enchanté, in partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Support for the established brands has seen a £12 million campaign behind Hardys, including a TV ad, and £5 million in advertising support for Echo Falls, which added a shatterproof plastic glass to its packaging SKUs. Other developments included the launch of a Hardys dessert Shiraz and Banrock Station in Tetra Pak.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
