The move means Fitou will be included in future promotions and communications activities for Sud de France, created in 2006 by the Languedoc-Roussillon region to promote regional wines and other produce.
Francois Fourrier, director of Septimanie Export, the body that operates the Sud de France programme, said: “The inclusion of Fitou is a very positive move for the Sud de France brand.
“Fitou is the most widely-recognised appellation from Languedoc-Roussillon on the UK market.
“It will strengthen the brand and bring increased distribution and visibility.”
Katie Jones, UK sales and marketing director for the Fitou-producing Mont Tauch co-operative, added: “We are very pleased to have been officially accepted under the Sud de France umbrella, and are looking forward to the increased promotional opportunities that this move will offer.”
